On April 8, 1997 Derek Jeter was a home run shy of the cycle.

As the Angles beat the Yankees 10-9 in 12 innings, Jeter went 3-6 with a double, triple, single and two RBIs.

Jeter would go on to get that elusive home run on April 8... twice.

It was just the wrong April 8. Captain Clutch would go deep on that date in both 2006 and 2009. Surprisingly, Jeter has never hit for the cycle in his illustrious career.

Monday, Jeter went 1-4 with a run in his final home opener. He nearly homered, but came a few inches short and had to hustle to avoid being thrown out at second base.

The last player to hit for the cycle in a single game was Texas Rangers OF Alex Rios on September 23, 2013. The last Yankee to do it was Melky Cabrera in 2009.
