After a six week hiatus to heal up a bad thumb, Jason Day will attempt to fight through the pain and compete at the Master’s Thursday. Day would immediately enter as one of the favorites in the field as the No. 4 golfer in the world.

On the week of a Masters tournament that has been overshadowed by the injuries to Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, Day enters the fray as a contender if his thumb can hold up. Day was on top of his game before suffering the injury and he spoke of his frustrations.

"The injury was more frustrating for me because ... I was playing some pretty good golf. It was trending in the right direction going into the Florida swing there,”

When asked if he has any pain when seining and i the progress he has made in the past weeks.

"There's no pain. I'm taping it just as a precaution. To be able to swing pain-free now is great. ... I've played 36 holes here over the last four days, and the hand's coming up nicely. I'm really looking forward to a nice, solid start.”

Day has been taking anti-inflammatories for weeks and has received at least one cortisone shot into the thumb to relieve the pain whilst it heals. If Day does perform well at the Masters, he leapfrog the three golfers in front of him. If he wins the Masters, not only would he become the second Australian to win the tournament (Adam Scott, 2011), but he would vault himself up into talks of being the No. 1 golfer in the world.
