Johnny Manziel jetted out west over the weekend to meet with top officials from the Oakland Raiders front office, fueling speculation the team may be leaning toward snaring the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback with its No. 5 selection in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Even after recently acquiring 33-year-old Matt Schaub, presumably to be the starter in 2014, the San Jose Mercury News reports team officials still feel the need to invest in a long-term signal caller and that's where Manziel could come in.

The News adds Raiders coach Dennis Allen was one of eight head coaches who attended Manziel's pre-draft workout at Texas A&M last month, where the boastful 2012 Heisman winner was said to have put on a strong performance, apparently putting him at least a step ahead of a quarterback draft field the team is considering that also includes Blakes Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr.

After winning the Heisman as a freshmen, Manziel also starred last season, finishing the year with 4,114 passing yards and 37 touchdowns.
