Former Pro Football Hall of Famer and Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly says he's in desperate need of a miracle.
USA TODAY Sports is reporting that Kelly appeared at a New York Knicks home game against the Washington Wizards with his family on Friday as he gets ready to start treatment for cancer in New York City.
According to USA TODAY Sports, Kelly interviewed with MSG Network between quarters, but didn't exactly spout optimism.
"My big battle starts Monday, when I start my radiation and chemo," Kelly said in an interview with MSG Network between quarters, "and I hope when it's all over they get everything, but right now we're praying for a miracle."
MMQB.si.com reported earlier this week that Kelly needs the chemo and radiation to stop the cancer that is "dangerously close" to the carotid artery in Kelly's head. Doctors opted for chemo over surgery because if the doctors operated on Kelly and couldn't remove all the cancer, the former quarterback wouldn't be able to receive chemotherapy or radiation for weeks, raising the possibility of the cancer spreading to his brain.
Kelly said that if reports ever surface that he'll undergo surgery, then it means that the chemo worked.
"I guarantee the normal person wouldn't have been able to take it," he told MMQB.si.com. "Some days, I don't know how I did. I complained about my headaches for months, and for a while I thought it was just part of the healing process from such a serious surgery. But obviously it was more than that. I'd look up to the Lord and say, 'I give. Uncle. You got me.' "
Kelly told MSG Network that he feels "sometimes good, sometimes bad" and indicated he wouldn't have attended the Knicks game if his daughter hadn't made the honor roll.
At least Kelly may have help in the prayer department of his fans.
