Today at 1:10 p.m. ET, the Washington Nationals (2-0) and New York Mets (0-2) conclude their three-game series live from Citi Field in New York City. The game can be live streamed here. Washington fans can hear all of the action on WFED 1100 while New York fans can do the same on 710 WOR.
Tanner Roark steps in for the Nationals after original starter Jordan Zimmerman went down with flu-like symptoms and needed to be replaced. Roark went 7-1 with a 1.51 ERA as a rookie last season. He'll be opposed by Zack Wheeler, who enters his first full season for the Mets after going 7-5 through 17 starts with a 3.42 ERA in 2013.
Washington looks for an opening series sweep after defeating New York 9-7 on Opening Day Monday and then collecting a 5-1 victory on Wednesday while the Mets hope to earn their first win of the season.
New York placed Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a quadriceps strain early Wednesday. The outfielder sat out Opening Day after sustaining the injury in Montreal during an exhibition game with the Toronto Blue Jays and then left Wednesday's game after the first inning when the injury flared up again.
New York was held to just three hits on Wednesday and has fanned 31 times in the first two games at Citi Field this season, a team-worst for the first two games of the season. New outfielder Curtis Granderson has whiffed five times in the first two games while going 0-for-9 and has started to hear boos from an impatient Mets fan base.
Granderson didn't attribute it to switching over from the American League.
"[Changing leagues] is something that has been done, and I can do it," Granderson told ESPN. "It's two games in. There are going to be a lot of at-bats over the course of a season."
Second baseman Daniel Murphy is expected to make his first 2014 start for New York after missing the first two games do to paternity leave.
Jayson Werth has been feasting on Mets pitching for the Nationals this series, going 4-for-5 Wednesday night to bring his average to .500 (5-for-10) through the first two games.
Gio Gonzalez pitched well for the Nationals Wednesday and even launched a home run. Manager Matt Williams praised his pitching staff after the game.
"I just think it's a byproduct of the way they go about it," Williams told the Washington Post. "We preach pitching to contact because we want quick innings and lower pitch counts and all of those things. But they've got good stuff, too."
The Nationals and Mets conclude their three-game opening set at Citi Field this afternoon in New York.
