The NBA has moved one step closer to company branded jerseys and the first to make the move is Kings point guard Isaiah Thomas. Thomas will be the first NBA player to wear a co-branded jersey and it comes from his new “nickname” jersey.

On April 6th Thomas will wear his number 22 with the name “pizza guy” on the back of it in connection with the point guard's endorsement with the local Pizza Guys pizzeria. Pizza Guys founder Shahpour Nejad released a statement on the April 6th game in which the Kings will wear the nickname jerseys.

The opportunity to not only build off of the incredible brand synergy that’s been created between us and Thomas, but also Sacramento’s home team, is truly remarkable. This is certainly a tribute to Kings fans for adopting our slogan into a nickname for one of our favorite players, and its now set to make sports history, appearing on the back of Isaiah’s uniform.

The idea of company logos and brands on jerseys has already been brought up by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in an attempt to gain up to $100 million in added revenue. The sleeved jersey was thought to be a test run for the eventual brands that would be added to the sleeves later, but Silver has recently noted that he would be open nixing the jerseys if their is enough outcry from players.
