Punk has been absent from WWE television since the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Punk appeared in the 30-man over-the-top-rope match in what proved to be his last match with the company as he stormed out prior to the next night's live Monday Night RAW telecast on Jan. 27.

Punk had been frustrated with the way he has been used in storylines as well as his standing in the company and he was also burned out from all the travel. At the time of Punk's departure, the plans for WrestleMania XXX called for Punk to take on Triple H while Batista would take on Randy Orton in a singles match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Punk was upset that Batista, like The Rock did the last few years, returned after years off only to get the main event spot on the biggest show of the year while guys like he and Daniel Bryan travel all-year-long and don't get main event spots at WrestleMania.

With Punk gone, Bryan has taken his spot against Triple H and the winner will now go on to join Batista and Orton in the main event for the title. Bryan's possible inclusion in the match was seen as a "middle finger" to Punk as the WWE wants him to think it could have been him doing it if he hadn't walked out.

It was reported that the WWE was upset that Punk wouldn't come to Chicago for RAW on March 3 from his hometown to discuss his frustrations with the company while he went to Los Angeles to appear on AMC's Talking Dead show that follows The Walking Dead.

Punk's contract is set to expire in July and he likely won't be coming back before it runs out, however it is possible that he and Lee got engaged as he continues to move on with his life and put the WWE behind him.
