With all the hype that is pumping through the Los Angles Angels clubhouse right now, they have to take a minute to appreciate the past and one of their former legends. Vladimir Guerrero has called it a career and will retire as a member of the Angels Tuesday after throwing out the first pitch Monday night.

According to Bill Shaikin the 39-year-old right handed hitter will sign a one-day deal with the Angels and ride off into the sunset until his Hall of Fame bid is heard. Guerrero is a nine-time All-Star and won his only MVP as a member of the Angels in 2004. Guerrero hasn’t played in the MLB for three years and announced his retirement last September, but this is the proper send off he both wanted and deserved.

On a sadder note from the cermony, Angels batting coach Don Baylor broke his right leg catching the first pitch and is schedule for surgery Tuesday. Baylor and Guerrero are the only Angels ever to win the MVP award.

When Vlad’s name comes up for the Hall of Fame he has a very good case. He is 36th in career home runs with 449 as well as 59th in total batting average at .318. Vlad was signed by the Montreal Expos as a ammeter free agent in 1993 and signed with the Angels in 2004.
