The bloodbath that is the American League East division kicks off right away on Opening Day, as the defending champion Boston Red Sox kick off their 2014 campaign with Jon Lester (0-0, 0.00 ERA) on the mound in Camden Yards against the Baltimore Orioles and Chris Tillman (0-0, 0.00 ERA) on ESPN2, in a matchup that can be live streamed free here. Red Sox fans can listen to the action on WEEI 93.7, while Orioles fans can tune in to the radio broadcast on 1090 WBAL.
The Red Sox may be the champions, but the Orioles come in with a loaded lineup, and arms that are live. Do not expect Boston to rest on their title-winning laurels.
"This is always a challenge to come into Baltimore, or playing them in Fenway," Red Sox manager John Farrell said Sunday. "This is a very good team. We've had a chance to see their regular lineup in spring training, and it's deep and powerful. Just another example of how difficult this division can be. This will be a good test for us right out of the gate."
The O's have the reigning AL home run king on their side (Chris Davis), and bolstered their order even further by inking slugging outfielder Nelson Cruz to the mix. Meanwhile Boston didn't make many major moves besides losing last year's center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury to the hated Yankees.
The Birds seem very excited to open the season against the powerhouse team from Beantown-- "We wouldn't have it any other way," center fielder Adam Jones said.
Lester is a seasoned Opening Day vet, and helped crush the Yankees in last season's first game. "It's like we talked about last year during the playoffs -- you want to set the tone for the rest of the guys," Lester said. "You don't want to be that weak link in the chain. You want to go out there and get these guys off on the right foot."
