Today at 5:05 p.m. ET following the UConn vs. Michigan State game, the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats will try to maintain a season-changing streak by reaching the Final Four. First, though, they must take down the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines on CBS, in an Elite Eight matchup that can be live streamed free by clicking this link. Kentucky fans can catch the radio broadcast on WKYM 101.7 FM, while Michigan fans will be able to listen in on WOMC-FM.
The Kentucky crew of freshmen entered the year ranked No.1, and were humbled several times throughout the season as they dealt with growing pains. They've matured nicely it seems, having run through No. 1 seed Wichita State and the defending champion Louisville Cardinals.
"The only thing I can tell you is, we just keep moving on," Wildcats coach John Calipari said. "The best thing about this for me as a coach is, I've continued to coach like it's midseason."
Unlike at midseason though, Calipari will have to make do without his best shot-blocker Willie Cauley-Stein. He injured his ankle Friday night, although Calipari hinted at some secret adjustments he's going to make.
"I'm going to wait until it's over and I'll go through everything that we did and when I did it," he said. "When you hear what I did, you'll say: 'Makes perfect sense.' And then you're going to ask: 'Why didn't you do it earlier?' And I'm going to tell you: 'I don't know. I should have."
Michigan's without its best big man as well, but they lost Mitch McGary early in the season and have had plenty of time to adjust accordingly. Michigan's been impressive throughout the tourney, but hasn't beaten any team seeded higher than No. 7. Head coach John Beilein dismissed this fact, and indicated seeds matter very little.
"It's a guess, that's all it is," Beilein said of the seedings. "And so, what it is, is, you've got eight teams right now, and these are the eight best teams in the country, no matter where they were seeded."
