Today at 2:20 p.m. ET, the No. 7 UConn Huskies will look to continue their surprising run in the NCAA Tournament against the No. 4 Michigan State Spartans on CBS, in an Elite Eight contest that can be live streamed free here. Huskies fans can listen to the game on News Radio 600 WREC, while Spartans fans can find the radio broadcast on Detroit 950 AM.
While many expected the Shabazz Napier show to continue against Iowa State in the Sweet 16, he received a boatload of help from forward DeAndre Daniels, who posted a monster effort with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while hitting 10-of-15 from the field.
"DeAndre's a scorer, and once you feel that you have that confidence, the next shot's going to go in," Napier said. "We kept feeding him, and he got super hot."
Finding another source of offense is important for UConn if they hope to upset the Spartans today, since teams coached by Tom Izzo can usually handle one-dimensional opponents. Michigan State, on the other hand, can hurt teams in a plethora of ways.
Branden Dawson isn't necessarily the first name that comes up when the Spartans come up, but he was the big performer in the Elite Eight against Virginia's dominating defense. Michigan State was held to just 61 points, almost 15 below their average, but Dawson piled up 24 of them along with 10 boards.
That won't scare the Huskies, who knocked off Michigan State last year and had a great season despite being barred from postseason play. Coach Kevin Ollie said their great season still built character. "That's what faith is all about," Ollie said. "When you can't see it, you still got to believe it. Most of the time we couldn't see it last year. But we knew we were continuing to plant seeds, and sooner or later it was going to be that right time when we were going to be ready for this moment."
The Huskies will need to keep their faith today, but will have a pro-UConn crowd to lean on at Madison Square Garden for a second straight game.
