Tonight at 7:27 p.m. ET the Sweet 16 continues in Madison Square Garden, where the No. 3 Iowa State Cyclones will clash with the No. 7 UConn Huskies in a game that might be the highest-scoring game of this round. Iowa State may be the favorite and higher seed, but they'll likely be balling in a hostile environment with UConn fans flooding the World's Most Famous Arena. UConn star Shabazz Napier, who has given college hoops observers flashbacks to UConn's 2011 title team led by Kemba Walker, said the fans will give them a huge edge tonight.
"When we are at home games and we're tired, and they get us going, I don't think anybody on the court would be tired after that," Napier said. "Guys are just exerting all their energy that they possibly have and pushing themselves to get the game."
Napier will be the focus of all Iowa State's attention after scoring 49 total points in his first two tourney games. Against former Big East rival Villanova, the East's No. 2 seed, Napier shot 69 percent from the field and knocked down 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, netting 25 points in a convincing win.
UConn isn't always so impressive defensively though, and Fred Hoiberg's Cyclones can light up the scoreboard. Iowa State has four players averaging double-figure scoring, led by Melvin Ejim and his 51 percent shooting for the season.
The multiple scorers share the ball well, which fellow star DeAndre Kane attributes to Hoiberg's coaching. "Just letting us play free, giving us the confidence to go out there and play, play for each other," Kane said.
