Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET, the Toronto Maple Leafs (36-30-8, 80 points) and Philadelphia Flyers (38-27-7, 83 points) hit the ice at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for the third and final meeting against each other this season. Toronto has lost six games in a row while Philadelphia is third in the Metropolitan Division and has lost two straight games. The Maple Leafs have earned victories in the first two meetings against the Flyers this season, notching a 3-1 triumph on Oct. 2 in Philadelphia and a 4-3 overtime victory on March 8 in Toronto.
The Flyers are coming off of a tough 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday that saw the team squander an opportunity to jump them in the standings.
"Teams are going to battle hard and we need to battle hard," coach Craig Berube said after the loss Wednesday, according to NHL.com. "We need everyone going, doing the right things out there."
The Maple Leafs are coming off of a 5-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday that saw Dion Phaneuf appear very frustrated after posting a minus-3.
"That wasn't even close to the level I have to play at," he said afterward per NHL.com. "I accept responsibility for that."
Phil Kessel leads the Maple Leafs with 77 points off of 36 goals and 41 assists while James van Riemsdyk has 28 markers and 29 helpers for 57 points and Nazem Kadri has lit the lamp 18 times and added 30 assists for 48 points.
Claude Giroux paces the Flyers with 75 points off of 24 goals and 51 assists while Wayne Simmonds has 24 tallies and 30 helpers for 54 points and Jakub Voracek also has 54 points by finding the back of the net 21 times and adding 33 assists.
Steve Mason will likely suit up in between the pipes for Philadelphia, and is 30-17-6 with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage while Jonathan Bernier will likely man the crease for Toronto and is 25-17-7 with a 2.65 GAA and a .925 save percentage.
The Maple Leafs and Flyers go head-to-head for the final time this season when the lights come up at the Wells Fargo Center tonight in Philadelphia.
