By now you have heard that DeSean Jackson has been released by the Eagles, but where does he play ball in 2014? Plenty of teams have the need for Jackson’s services and if his background checks out he would be a welcome edition. Here is Jackson's official statement and possibilities on where will he land?
"First I would like to thank the Eagles organization, the Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia for my time in Philly. I would also like to thank coach Andy Reed for bringing me in. Secondly, I would like to address the misleading and unfounded reports that my release has anything to do with any affiliation that has been speculated surrounding the company I keep off of the field. I would like to make it very clear that I am not and never have been part of any gang. I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values. I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made both on and off the field. I have worked tirelessly to give back to my community and have a positive impact on those in need. It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions. These reports are irresponsible and just not true . I look forward to working hard for my new team. God Bless."
New York Jets: The Jets still make sense for Jackson even after the trade talks fell apart. Jackson gets to be the team's No. 1 receiver and stay in the spotlight that comes with New York. The team's front office is in a safe place right now due to the 2013 season so this could be a move that defines both Rex Ryan and John Idzik in their Jet tenures. The fit is almost too good.
Odds: 3 to 1
Kansas City Chiefs: The dark horse is the Chiefs and Andy Reid. Reid drafted Jackson and most likely knows all about Jackson's issues off the field and still stuck by him. The Chiefs need some receiver help and getting Jackson across from Dwayne Bowe would help Alex Smith tons. Reid could be Jackson's saving grace the way Reid helped Michael Vick when he was first real eased out of prison.
Odds: 5 to 1
Carolina Panthers: I have mocked Odell Beckham to the Panthers for a very long time now and he compares to DeSean Jackson so why not just get the proven thing? The Panthers have had a miserable offseason and have purged the offensive line and wide receiver group. Jackson would go a long way to fixing one of the teams biggest problems, but do they have the cap room? Cam Newton to DeSean Jackson sounds like a deadly combo.
Odds: 12 to 1
Oakland Raiders: The Raiders signed James Jones, but he would better served as a Robin to Jackson’s Batman. Oakland has the cap space and has never been a team to care much for off the field issues. Another great fit for Jackson, but would he want to go to a franchise that is in disarray like the Raiders? If it was 2015 the Raiders would have a much better chance due to their impressive offseason.
Odds: 15 to 1
No One: The possibility of Jackson not playing at all this year is one that has to be mentioned. Gang violence is a taboo in the post-Hernandez NFL so Jackson has to clear his name and answer the tough questions. He will play this year if all checks out, but it's worth mentioning.
Odds: 1,000 to 1
