It's rare to see a full-blown brawl in a National Hockey League game for a number of reasons. They league is trying to crack down on fights, injuries and violence in general; apparently no one shot the AHL that memo.

Iowa Wild were down 5-0 to the Charlotte Checkers in the third period when things just went completely downhill. The Wild are in last place in their respective division with nothing to lose, so I ask you, what would you do in this situation?

If you said start a massive brawl that results in 230 penalty minutes, you are the winner and also you should definitely keep that to yourself. The Wild started a fist fight with anyone they could find and there are videos!

After all the dust cleared and the Wild lost 7-0, Captain Jake Dowell spoke with the Des Moines Register about the events that occurred.

“It’s embarrassing when it comes to that. But, we’re proud of each other for sticking up for one another and sticking up for ourselves. But, that shouldn’t have to happen again.

“That’s not the way we like to see hockey games go because that’s not really playing hockey. That’s just brawling.”

Hockey is due for one of these full out street fights every once in awhile and that doesn’t seem to be going away. Whether you find it appalling or entertaining, fighting in hockey is as old as the sport and doesn’t look to be going anywhere.
