Many fans were calling for Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett's job when the team failed to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year in 2013, but owner Jerry Jones has held onto his coach and even said his job will be safe should the Cowboys bump that number up to five straight years in 2014.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones said that Garrett's job status won't necessary hinge on the Cowboys making the playoffs.
"I don't think so," Jones told the paper at the NFL's annual meetings. "I don't look at it that way at all. It's no secret that we probably are shoulder to shoulder on the success we'd like for this team to have with him as head coach and what it would do for our fans' future, our future."

Jones pointed to Garrett's growth as a coach as the reason why he wouldn't be let-go should the team miss out on the postseason again.
"He's more capable today than he was when he took over as head coach," he told the paper. "If that arrow is going up, it just makes sense to have our future with Jason."
Jones has invested a lot in Garrett, but the head coach has led Dallas to three consecutive 8-8 seasons that included losing a playoff berth on the final game of the year. Overall, Garrett has compiled a 29-27 record with the Cowboys over three and a half seasons.
Garrett said he hasn't discussed his future with Jones.
"We really haven't talked about [my future]," Garrett said Wednesday via NFL.com. " ... We've played in the Week 17 game to win the division the last three years. We put ourselves in the position to achieve our immediate goal, which is to win the NFC East."
Still, the team has failed to win that crucial game and choked in the most important game for three straight years, drawing the ire of many fans that would like to see a change in leadership.
Garrett's job may be safe here in March, but if his team is once again on the outside looking in on the postseason for the fifth straight year for the first time since 1986-1990, the conversation may be much different come December.
