Wow. What an incredible weekend of basketball and March Madness was indeed in full effect. A number one fell, seven double digit seeds advanced out of the round of 64 and three are going to the Sweet 16. March Madness is the one event that keeps America glued to their seats from noon to midnight for four days in March. Looking forward some news and notes for the Midwest Region.

Games:
No. 8 Kentucky v. No. 4 Louisville:
If this is what the selection committee had in mind all along then bravo. This matchup is a role reversal from where these teams find themselves in normal tournaments. Both are underdogs in this tournament and possibly under-seeded. The winner will have the momentum to make a Final Four push and both have the pedigree of champions. Definitely the game of the Sweet 16 you have to watch.
Prediction: Louisville 64- Kentucky 59

No. 11 Tennessee v. No. 2 Michigan: Tennessee is playing incredible basketball and in hindsight shouldn't have been a No. 11 seed at all. The Volunteers are fresh off an unspectacular game against Mercer and would have been better served playing Duke. The Vols are possibly the hottest team in the tourney other than Florida and wil make this game interesting for Michigan. the Wolverines also look lackluster with their win over Texas. Either team needs to pick up their game to match the momentum the winner of the other game will have.
Prediction: Tennessee 57-Michigan 53

Region Favorite: Louisville has looked great and is bitter about being a four seed. The reigning champion has never have a chip bigger than the Cardinals and also have the team to repeat. Louisville can make a fool out of the selection committee by repeating as champions when they were a projected number two seed.

Region Notes:
1. The region of death lived up to it’s name as the number one and number three seed both didn’t make it out of the forst weekend. Duke has under preformed in the first round for years and it finally caught up with them while Wichita State proved they were a team that could compete, but it came against a Kentucky team loaded with talent playing their best basketball of the season. It’s sad to see the Shockers season special season end so suddenly.

2. Another on Wichita State. They didn’t get the respect they deserve, but if they did pull out that win against the Wildcats they could have entered the conversation for best single season teams of all time, title or not. I would have enjoyed a Wichita State vs. Louisville matchup just as much as Kentucky.

3. Hats off to Mercer, Manhattan and NC State as they provided great entertaining games and even knocked off some teams that were suppose to contend in this region of death. The upset bit the teams before the projected games.
