Wow. What an incredible weekend of basketball and March Madness was indeed in full effect. A number one fell, seven double digit seeds advanced out of the round of 64 and three are going to the Sweet 16. March Madness is the one event that keeps America glued to their seats from noon to midnight for four days in March. Looking forward some news and notes for the East Region.

Sweet 16 Regions:
South
West

Games:
No. 4 Michigan State v. No. 1 Virginia:
This is the game that will make or break most bracket challenges that aren't for a billion dollars. Michigan State was somehow a favorite to come out of the region, but Virginia is the underrated No. 1 seed. It's a curious case that puts the seeding process in a weird spot. Michigan State has the ability to open this one up and embarrass Virginia, but at this point in the tournament it is anyone's game.
Prediction: Michigan State 66- Virginia 60

No. 7 UConn v. No. 3 Iowa State: Iowa State is reeling from its game against UNC and could stumble to start this game. Without Georges Niang the Cyclones were a popular pick to lose to the Tar Heels, but survived. UConn is playing great basketball at the right time, but Villanova never really looked the part of a No. 2 seed. UConn is a bipolar team and Iowa State is a little worn from the round of 32. All should make for a very good game.
Prediction: UConn 58- Iowa State 57

Region Favorite: Michigan State is playing complete basketball and have rode the momentum of the Big Ten Championship into the tournament. I would take Sparty against any team in the country right now and they would make it a must watch game. Virginia has a lot to prove and is playing with a chip on it’s shoulder, but Michigan State is too good right now.

Region Notes:

1. Villanova had a very disappointing tournament after losing to UConn and honestly would have probably lost to Saint Joseph's if they had beaten the Huskies. Villanova never looked the part and showed it early and often.

2. Villanova, Syracuse and Duke all disappointed in a tournament where many have No. 4 seeds Louisville and Michigan State meeting in the championship. That's embarrassing for the NCAA selection committee.

3. It’s becoming an annual thing to watch the Harvard Crimson crush some team's dream as a double-digit seed. The Crimson beat New Mexico last season and beat Cincinnati this year before getting beat by Sparty. If the Crimson saw a different No. 4 seed they could have been a strong Sweet 16 squad.
