It’s believed that the Pistons will fire interim head coach John Loyer and general manager Joe Dumars in the offseason in an attempt to start the rebuilding process again. If these moves do come to pass Sam Amick of USA Today believes ownership will target Michigan States legendary coach Tom Izzo.

Izzon is in the middle of a NCAA Tournament run and will likely not listen to anything until the end of the season. Izzo has been courted by NBA teams before and almost accepted the Cavaliers job in 2010 until he decided to stay at Michigan State and the Cavs went on to sign Byron Scott.

The Pistons were supposed to be one of the most improved teams in the NBA after signing Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith. Combining the big signings with established talent in Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe was suppose to be the winning formula in Detroit. Everything has gone down hill since then and the Pistons even tried to trade Smith at the trade deadline.

The Pistons could make a splash with Tom Izzo at the helm or he could turn them down for Michigan State like he has done before. Detroit is aiming high and thats a good sign for the Pistons. The Pistons are 26-44 and 5.5 games out of the playoffs with 12 games to go.
