As the Philadelphia 76ers inch ever closer to an NBA record 27-game losing streak the usual questions have to be asked. Are these 76ers the worst team in professional sports?
History would say no and there are plenty of terrible teams that can take the title for history’s worst. Lets look at some of the most infamous teams in the history of sports.
1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14): The first stop on our trip through the worst of the worst are the “Suck-a-neers” of 1976. This team gets a mulligan of sorts due to the fact they were an expansion team. They went 0-14 in their first season in the NFL and didn't win a game until the 13th game of their second season. If thats not enough to convince you, this famous quote by coach John McKay will. When asked about what he thought of his team's execution he responded as serious as can be “I’m in favor of it”. Cold blooded.
2011-2012 Charlotte Bobcats (7-59): This team is the worst basketball team in history so you can rest easy 76ers faithful. The Bobcats might have had a chance to hold the record losing streak the 76ers are chasing, but the season ended with their streak at 23. Sure they played a lockout shortened season, but seven wins is incredible. They do hold the record for largest margin of defeat with 14 points per game and had very little talent that never meshed together.

1899 Cleveland Spiders (20-134): With a whopping .130 winning percentage the Spiders take the cake for sports worst team. This team was so historically bad that they only played 42 home games due to averaging 199 fans per game in attendance. The Spiders were 11-101 on the road that season on their way to the worst record in baseball history by a very wide margin. The media coined the names "Exiles" and “Wanderers” due to the fact the team was miserable and never player at home.
