Will the soccer look come full circle for the NBA sooner rather than later. New NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated that he believes the league will adopt ads on jerseys within the next five years.

The decision is bad news for fans of the classic look, but a good news in a business sense. Commissioner Silver and before him David Stern had thrown the idea of sponsored jerseys since 2011 and the move looks to be taking shape as we speak.
The question is were the sleeved jerseys developed with this transition in mind? Business Insider’s Cork Gaines believes the league's development of sleeved jerseys was the first steep in prototyping ads on players.
“In addition to the increase in surface area on the front compared to a traditional jersey, the design includes fewer contrasting colors and less area being covered by graphics, lettering, and numbers. It would seem that this is exactly what you would want to change if you were going to eventually add an advertisement patch to the front of the uniforms.”
In a time when everyone is chasing the NFL in dollars and popularity, other sports leagues aren’t going to turn down a cast sum of money for the sake of tradition and classic look. The money is too much for the NBA to say no, but they must cater to the players in this situation due to the outcry over the sleeved jerseys this season. Make no mistake its a matter of when not if NBA jerseys get sponsors.
