Johnny Weir is proving to be more adept in his career path but than in his romantic life.
TMZ Sports reported Wednesday that the former U.S. figure skating national champion-turned NBC Sports commentator for the 2014 Sochi Olympics is divorcing his husband, Victor Voronov after just more than two years of marriage.
He tweeted as such, saying:
As Philly.com reported, Weir changed his Twitter handler from "Weir-Voronov" back to "Weir."
Before he went to work for NBCSN during the Winter Olympics, Weir's husband filed a police report against the 29-year-old figure skater, RadarOnline.com reported. In the police report, Voronov accused Weir of biting him during a domestic violence dispute.
Few details of the incident were released publicly, but RadarOnline.com reported that the couple appeared in court in Lyndhurst, N.J., after the Olympics ended, and Voronov asked the judge to dismiss the charges. The dismissal was granted, according to the report.
Weir, who won three national figure skating championships from 2004-06 but never medaled in the Olympics, earned positive reviews for his stint as a commentator during the 2014 Winter Games.
A New York Times article fawned over the broadcast team of Weir, Tara Lipinski and Terry Gannon on NBCSN.
"In its first Olympics, the Weir team has earned raves; one friend told me that listening to their preternaturally smart analysis reminded him of hearing John McEnroe analyze tennis on television for the first time. Naturals," the Times stated.
Weir hinted that the relationship had its volatile moments to Access Hollywood, according to the RadarOnline.com report.
"A marriage between two guys is different than what I imagine a marriage between a man and a woman (to be)," he told Access Hollywood in February. "I mean, we're both constantly trying to fight to wear the pants in the relationship.
"It's constant fireworks," Weir added. "It's very boom, boom, boom."
