Central Flordia quarterback Blake Bortles set the tone at the Combine by default when he choose to throw instead of just running and measuring for the scouts. Wednesday Bortles had the chance to impress scouts again at his Pro Day.
Bortles went 41 for 50 on his throws and most of his misses came later on in the workout and on deep balls. Scouts said Bortles looked tired in the later portion, but gave him the benefit of it being a very hot and humid day. Bortles overall performance was decent according to sources at the Pro Day and it is expected that this won’t damage his stock
At 6-foot-5, 232 pounds Bortles is everything you want when making the prototype at quarterback, and his arm has shown to be of the same status. His deep ball is as good as any quarterback in this class and it will be one the tools that make him more desirable if not the most desirable quarterback.
Bortles told people media in attendance that he met with four teams “extensively” and later reports were that the Texans were one of the teams. Bortles is considered by many to be the top quarterback in the draft due to his size and cannon for an arm that can make all the throws. Today only solidified Bortles chances of being the top quarterback off the board as he continues to work toward May and his eventual landing spot in the first round.
