As free agency grinds on the Philadelphia Eagles are hot on the trade paths again as they try to find a suitor for wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Rumors have surfaced for weeks that the Eagles have been seeking a partner interested in Jackson’s services for the foreseeable future. The 49ers and Patriots have emerged as early candidates that have inquired about the asking price for Jackson.

What Should the NFL do with Jim Irsay?

The reported asking price is at least a third round pick and taking on Jackson’s current contract. The 49ers have reportedly dropped out of the sweepstakes due to salary cap issues with the impending Colin Kaepernick contract. The Patriots are still an option, but with cap problems of their own they have to do some money shuffling.

The Patriots have a decision to make on Vince Wilfork, who asked for a release last week. He would free up about $8 million in cap space and would allow for a move for Jackson to be made. Another scenario that has been thrown around is possible third or fourth round pick as well as Danny Amendola for Jackson so the Patriots can keep Wilfork.

Jackson still has plenty in the tank at 27, but all the speculation of trade can’t be positive for his confidence. This saga should have a resolution sooner rather than later and when it’s all said and done look for Jackson to still be an Eagle.
