Today at 1:40 p.m. ET the No. 8 Michigan Wolverines will face off with the No. 24 Ohio State Buckeyes, winners of five straight Bit Ten conference tournament champions. Michigan's offense is one of the top teams in the nation offensively, but defensive improvements have them feeling like they can capture their first conference tourney title since 1998.
"Guys are getting better at communicating on defense, getting in the gaps and all that kind of stuff," guard/forward Nik Stauskas said. "We're confident in our abilities, and, I think, going forward we're only going to keep getting better."
They struggled to get past Illinois, as the offense faltered behind a shooting slump by Stauskas. Michigan coach John Beilein mentioned the supporting cast in talking about the Wolverines' win. "(Stauskas) didn't knock them down, but we had people knock down big ones early in the second half between Spike (Albrecht), Glenn Robinson (and) Derrick Walton. But we're going to have to make some of those (shots)."
Today's matchup may very well be a battle of pace-Michigan scores 75.1 points per game while the Buckeyes allow just under 60. Michigan beat Ohio State by 10 points in their first showdown of the year back in February.
"We know they're a tough team," guard Shannon Scott said. "Back at our place, we had them down early in the game, and they were more physical than us, had more toughness than us, and they came out with a win. With that in the back of our head, we know we've got to have our A game."
