The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free agent quarterback Josh McCown to a two-year deal worth at least $10 million that also affords him the chance to replace Mike Glennon as the team's starting signal-caller, according to ESPN.
The website reports the former Bears passer will make $4.75 million this season and $5.25 in 2015-16. ESPN adds McCown can also earn an additional $5 million in incentives, $1 million each year for playing time and another $3 million for reaching the playoffs.
Described as a "glue guy" by Bears GM Phil Emery, McCown excelled in rookie coach Marc Trestman's high-powered offense, setting a team single-game completion record by completing 36 passes in a late November loss to St. Louis. During Week 15, he was also named NFC Offensive Player of the Week and ranked No. 3 in the entire league with a passing rating of 109.0.
In all, the 34-year-old journeyman played in eight games and recorded three wins in five starts as Jay Cutler's backup. Overall, McCown passed for 1,829 yards and 13 touchdowns. McCown also previously played two seasons in Chicago under new Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith, playing in three games over that time and passing for 414 yards and two touchdown.
