Darren Sharper rape case update: Alleged rape accomplice Erik Nunez free on $400,000 bail [VIDEO]

The man named as an accomplice to former Super Bowl hero Darren Sharper in an ongoing rape probe has been freed on $400,000 bond.

According to NOLA.com. Erik Nunez was freed in New Orleans late Monday on charges of aggravated rape of two women and is due back in court on March 21.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old Sharper remains jailed without bail in Los Angeles on a fugitive warrant from New Orleans, where two women have alleged the former NFL star drugged them with the sleep-inducing drug Ambien, then sexually abused them.

In all, Sharper has now been accused of similar acts by as many as nine women in five different states. In the case where Nunez is also charged, witnesses have allegedly told police that both men admitted they had engaged in oral and vaginal sex with both women "without their knowledge or permission."

A California Superior Court judge has given New Orleans police until Thursday to either file formal charges in that case against Sharper or see him too released from custody. Sharper was initially freed on $1 million bail in L.A., but had it revoked after the warrant in New Orleans was issued. Sharper has pleaded not guilty to all the formal charges.

Sharper played 13 NFL seasons and was named to the All 2000s Decades Team. He retired in 2010 and until his arrest worked as an analyst for the NFL Network before recently being terminated.
