Reports indicate that after a week of rumors constantly circulating, Phil Jackson has agreed to terms to be the president of the New York Knicks.
According to the New York Post, Jackson has reached an agreement in principle to oversee the Knicks basketball operations and will have the term "president" in his title.
According to the report, which cites a league source, all that is left before Jackson takes the job is for the lawyers on both sides to finalize the contract details by the end of this week. Jackson reportedly gave the Knicks confirmation that he'd be coming aboard on Saturday.
The New York Daily News reported that Jackson could make $15 million a year by agreeing to take over the Knicks basketball operations.
While the New York Post has confirmed that the deal is done, there has been no confirmation from the Knicks or Jackson via an official statement, so it's not 100 percent done until an announcement of some kind is made.
It has been a terrible season in New York, as the Knicks have stumbled to a 25-40 record this season, leading to speculation that head coach Mike Woodson will be fired at year's end and that star forward Carmelo Anthony will bolt through free agency.
Jackson, an 11-time NBA championship coach, brings a history of success to the Knicks if he indeed comes aboard. After owner James Dolan proclaimed the team to be a championship contender leading into this season, everything has unraveled. The team hopes bringing in Jackson will amend this horrid season.
It remains to be seen if Jackson can help turn this franchise around, or if he definitely has agreed to a deal.
