In a shocking turn of events the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced they will attempt to trade cornerback Darrelle Revis and if they are unsuccessful they will release the five-time Pro Bowler. A trade seems unlikely and Tampa Bay left the option open for Revis to restructure and stay. In all likelihood Revis will be released and on the move. Revis has plenty left in the tank and could contribute immediatly, but where will he land?
New York Jets: This is the question you will hear most in the next 24 hours. Rex Ryan loves Darrelle Revis and the Jets were willing to keep Revis if the price was right. In the end it was too rich for their blood and they dealt him to Tampa Bay. Revis is recovered from his ACL injury and should be humbled by his sudden unemployment. The Jets have a need and the cap space to pay him what his market price would be. Would Revis Island return?
Odds: 15 to 1
Cleveland Browns: The Browns are a dark horse in this race and a spot that would be very interesting for Revis. He would be paired with up-and-coming Joe Haden and would give the Browns the best tandem corners in the league. Add on top of that the rumors of the Browns landing Jarius Byrd and you have the NFL’s best secondary. Coach Mike Pettine is a Rex Ryan guy and was his defensive coordinator when Revis was in New York.
Odds: 10 to 1
New England Patriots: Revis would be a nice compliment to Aqib Talib and Bill Belichick has a habit of taking older stars and getting the most out of them. It would be a chance to win now for Revis while making a solid salary. Patriots are always in play for big names and Revis would fit right in.
Odds: 5 to 1
Field: Tampa Bay could always restructure his deal and keep him. The Broncos have a need, but can they obtain their original targets and still afford Revis? The 49ers took a shot on Nnamdi Asomugha only for it to fail, but the 49ers defense could still use the shot in the arm that Revis would supply.
