Former NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady achieved another milestone while crossing one of his dreams off his bucket list. The 34-year-old McGrady got the news earlier today that he would be invited to Sugar Land Skeeters spring training camp.

The Sugar Land Skeeters are a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an independent baseball league that is not affiliated with the MLB. Skeeters manager Gary Gaetti spoke about the decision and said the team is intrigued by McGrady’s skill set.

"We're intrigued by the progress Tracy has made thus far and really commend him for putting in the work.”

The 6-foot-8, seven-time All-Star will now be listed as the 6-foot-8 right hander in Skeeter programs. McGrady had dreamed of playing professional baseball since age 5 and played until his senior year in high school. The official release from the McGrady through the Skeeters is as followed:

“I got called into the skipper’s office after practice and he let me know that I was going to be a part of the Skeeters’ Spring Training camp. This has been a goal of mine and it’s a great challenge. I’m looking forward to competing and I’m excited about this great opportunity.”

McGrady transferred schools to a high school that did not have a baseball program, but did have a basketball program. McGrady was drafted ninth overall in the 1997 draft by the Toronto Raptors and is 61st on the NBA’s career points list.
