Today at 3:00 p.m. ET the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas will kick off on Fox, with young gun Joey Logano leading the pack after netting pole position with a record lap. Live stream the high-speed action for free by clicking this link.
Logano set a track record with a qualifying lap of 193.28 mph, and he will be joined up front by his teammate Brad Keselowski. "It gets crazy out there," said Logano of the new qualifying system. "I think it's way cooler than old-style qualifying, don't get me wrong. It's awesome. ... We're all learning right now. It's all new to us, but we're having fun with it. I enjoy it. I think it's cool."
Last week Keselowski took the pole for the race at Phoenix with Logano slotted second, clearly displaying an early mastery of the knockout style. Fans are enjoying it as well, with bigger turnouts lately for the qualifying laps. "That's the whole point of this," Logano said when asked about the big crowds.
"A lot more preparation goes into it, a lot more communication between myself, my spotter, my crew chief. Not really about our race car, but how are we going to go out there, and what's our game plan? Every time we've had a game plan going into it, it's changed so far. At least we're pulling audibles and they're working."
NASCAR's biggest star, Dale Earnhardt Jr., will begin today's action 14th. Although he's not at the top to start, he's won the Daytona 500 already and followed it up with a second-place finish in Phoenix. "Starting off this year with a win and a second-place finish just continues to make us feel like what we're doing is working and what we're doing is heading in the right direction," Earnhardt said .
"When you get more confidence you're more positive and relationships with yourself and your crew chief and among your crew members."
