Will boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao run for senator in the Philippines two years from now?

The Philippine Daily Inquirer is reporting that Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay, who will run for Philippine presidency in 2016, will include the popular boxing champ in his senatorial slate. Pacquiao also serves as representative of the Saranggani province in the Philippine Congress.

"Yes, we will include him in the [senatorial] slate," Binay told the media when asked whether Pacquiao will be one of his senatorial candidates. "We have been in talks for a long time. Even before the 2013 elections."

Binay added that Pacquiao was not included in his senatorial line-up in 2013 because the eight-division world champion was underage during that time. Pacquiao turned 35 last December, making him qualified to run for senator two years from now.

Pacquiao, however, has not made up his mind on whether he will accept Binay's offer. He however confirmed that in case he will run for senator, it would be under Binay's new party. "If I indeed decide to run for the Senate, (it would be under him) since we are party-mates," he told ABS-CBNNews.com.

He also said he will consider first the welfare of his family in General Santos City before running for higher office. "My responsibility to my family...I have to consider first since they depend on me."

Despite being a Congressman in the Philippines, Pacquiao continues to fight in the ring. During the 15th Congress, he recorded the most absences among 280 members. He is scheduled to meet American Tim Bradley on April 12 in Las Vegas.
