Brett Favre hinted at the reason for his new "Santa on Steroids" look, in which a recent photo of a buff Favre with a shaggy white hair and a white beard went viral.

According to Hollywoodlife.com, Favre's focus these days has been mostly on his family.

"My family took a backseat for 20 years," Brett told Sports Talk 570, a Washington radio station, in a recent interview. "My 14-year-old daughter plays volleyball and is in the ninth grade and will be playing again the next three years. I've taken trips that I never thought I'd take. I've gone to Yellowstone and I've gone to Glacier National Park. We've gone down to the Bahamas, we've done things that really everybody in my family just kind of waited for."

And for a 44-year-old man to do have the energy to do all that requires a healthy lifestyle, which could explain the muscles suddenly exploding from Favre. Along with his family time, Favre serves as the offensive coordinator for Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss.

When the St. Louis Rams made an inquiry for Favre's services after quarterback Sam Bradford was lost for the season with a knee injury, naysayers dismissed the notion as a publicity stunt - some even suggesting that Favre was the instigator.

But upon looking at Favre's physique, the Rams' inquiry doesn't seem so far-fetched. But the former NFL quarterback who won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers and played for the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings also revealed that he was suffering from memory loss in explaining why he turned down the Rams' offer. He told Sports 570 in a separate interview that he couldn't remember his daughter participating in a youth soccer league one summer, even though she played in several games, according to a CNN report.

Favre told Sports 570, "For the first time in 44 years, that put a little fear in me," CNN reported.

Whether the memory loss was part of Favre's decision to hit the gym is unclear. What is clear that Favre seems to be more serious about taking care of his family - and his body.
