Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET the Oklahoma City Thunder (46-15), currently pacing the NBA's Western Conference, will head to the desert where the upstart Phoenix Suns (35-25) will try to control the dual powers of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Westbrook absolutely torched the Philadelphia 76ers in Oklahoma City's most recent game, notching a triple double in slightly over 20 minutes. While he is unlikely to duplicate the feat against a playoff contender in Phoenix, Westbrook proved he's fully healthy and that the team is better off with him in the lineup.
"He made everybody better tonight," Durant said. "He was moving the basketball, he was aggressive to the rim. I think that's why everybody got open, because of his aggressiveness. He just set the tone for us."
Even Westbrook admitted he was pleased to have accomplished such a feat. "I'm just trying to get my groove back," he said. "I'm blessed to be able to do that in such a short amount of time. It was fun."
Phoenix point guard Eric Bledsoe may have been able to help contain Westbrook, but he's only just returned to practice for the Suns. They're thin at the position; even though Goran Dragic has played at an All-Star level they just lost reserve Leandro Barbosa to a broken hand. "Other guys will have to step up," coach Jeff Hornacek said.
Perhaps that help will come from rookie big man Alex Len, who made his first career start on Tuesday. "I thought Alex did a good job early," Hornacek said. "He got after it, got some rebounds for us."
