The Miami Heat organization is not happy with LeBron James' rumored plan to attend Zydrunas Ilgauskas' upcoming jersey retirement ceremony with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
James spent several seasons playing for his hometown team before abruptly bolting for South Beach three seasons ago to play alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
James and Ilgauskas played several seasons together in Cleveland, but now given the latter's status as Cav's assistant GM the Heat are having reservations about The King actually being on hand for for the festivities.
Now 29, the Cavs have long made it known they would be open to welcoming James back into the fold whenever he might be willing to return to his roots. The four-time NBA MVP has option to become a free agent as early as this off season.
After James announced his "decision," Cavs owner Dan Gilbert instantly went on the attack, castigating him as a traitor and taking down all the "Witness" billboards that hung across from the team's arena.
"When I came in the league as a rookie, you try to find veteran leadership, someone to grab onto as far as how to be a professional and he was that guy for me," James told Forbes.com of his relationship with Ilgauskas.
