With the help of a jumper with 0.3 seconds remaining in the game, Bradley Beal lifted the Washington Wizards past the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-99.
"I didn't know what I was going to do to be honest with you," the Associated Press quoted Beal as saying. "Coach just said go make a play."
For the Wizards, Beal and Martell Webster scored 22 point apiece, Kevin Seraphin had 19 points and Emeka Okafor finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
For the Thunder, the top scorer Kevin Durant added 29 points, eight assists and chipped in with seven rebounds.
Durant cut the Wizards lead to 95-94 with a dunk with just a little over two minutes remaining in the game, but Martell Webster extended the Wizards' lead to 99-94 with a four-point play.
Serge Ibaka's jumper and Durant's shot from beyond the three-point arc with 36 seconds left tied the game at 99.
"I thought we had a chance," Russell Westbrook said. "We just had to get a stop. But the way the game had been going for us throughout the game, it wouldn't surprise me if they would make a game-winner."
Westbrook had only 17 points on Monday, but Ibaka compensated by adding 26 points and 11 rebounds.
The Thunder made 34 of 80 attempts from the field, which included six three-pointers, while the Wizards had 38 of 87 and 10 three-pointers.
"We let them stick around, because we're not taking them serious enough," Durant said. "We can't do that, man. We can't do that."
Washington outscored the Thunder 30-20 in the first quarter, whereas they were outshined by Oklahoma City 33-21.
In the third quarter, the Wizards, who were trailing by two points at halftime, attacked their opponents to score 25 against the Thunder's 20 to take a three-point lead in the game. Beal ended the third quarter with a four-point play.
In the fourth quarter, the Thunder outscored the Wizards 26-25, but lost the game by two points, thanks to the buzzer-beater by Beal.
"How many times have we been in this spot?" Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "We're going to get the last shot. . I said, 'It's time for us to be on the other end, to have someone step up and make a play.' Bradley made a hell of a shot."
