Floyd Mayweather Jr. took his sweet time deciding on an opponent for May 3rd, eventually settling on the power of Marcos "El Chino" Maidana over the speed and skill of Amir "King" Khan. A bitter Khan has been firing shots at Floyd ever since, but Mayweather insists he simply "chose the better man."

Could Amir Khan fight Keith "One-Time" Thurman?

"(Marcos) Maidana has a lot of great wins lately, whereas Amir Khan is 2-2 in his last four fights. That's all there is to it," Mayweather said. "I chose the better man."

Khan has lobbied for months that his record shouldn't be the final factor. He has trumped his hand speed, his skill, and the fact that Mayweather has handled countless power-punching opponents in his recent past. He also won an unofficial fan poll posted by Mayweather, which he said the winner of would be his May 3rd opponent. Khan received a significantly larger number of votes, which Khan referenced in his latest Twitter salvo.

Amir Khan says Floyd Mayweather running scared?

"FM is full of s**t. Just like ' my next opponent ' Poll," Khan wrote. He also has been quoted as saying Floyd took "the easy route," with Maidana, despite Chino's impressive win over Mayweather protégé Adrien Broner.

Obviously, Floyd begs to differ, and spelled out a number of reasons Maidana is a fine choice. "This is a very, very difficult fight for me," Mayweather said. "This is a guy I know I can't overlook. Each and every time Marcos Maidana goes out there, he gives it his best. I know I have to go out there and be at my best." Apparently hope isn't lost for Khan to get his shot at Mayweather. The pound-for-pound king challenged Khan to face Broner, with the stipulation that if he solves "The Problem" a Mayweather fight will be the reward. "I don't have an easy fight on May 3, 2014, so I can't over look @ChinoMaidana but @AmirKingKhan, if you and @AdrienBroner end up fighting... ... each other on my show and you win (which you won't)... I'll fight you," Mayweather tweeted.
