Monday night could be a homecoming for CM Punk. The WWE superstar hasn't been seen on WWE television since the Royal Rumble after walking out on the company prior to a live Monday Night RAW telecast the next night, but reports indicate "The Best in the World" may be returning on Monday's RAW from his hometown of Chicago.
WWE prepared to deal with crowd if CM Punk isn't at Chicago RAW?
According to The Wrestling Observer, while it's not set in stone, it is expected that Punk will make his long awaited return to WWE television on Monday night.
Dave Metzler, who made the report known, didn't say that he was 100% certain that Punk will be at RAW in Chicago, but noted that his source said that Punk is "one of the biggest stars in the industry" and that it was confirmed Punk would return.
Punk left the company prior to the Jan. 27 edition of RAW after a reported dispute with Vince McMahon which ended up with Punk telling the WWE CEO and Chairman that he was "going home." The following Wednesday, the WWE removed Punk from all advertisements for upcoming events though McMahon had hoped he'd return to the company.
On Feb. 20, McMahon made the first and only acknowledgement that Punk had left the company during a conference call with investors when one investor asked him about Punk's status.
"He's taking a sabbatical, let's just put it that way," McMahon said via Wrestlingheadlines.com.
Punk has been frustrated with his role within the company and over the fact that guys such as himself and Daniel Bryan tax their bodies by performing and traveling all year while superstars like The Rock and Batista take years off only to return to the company and get main event spots at WrestleMania.
Punk has dreamed of headlining the biggest show of the year, and with Batista taking on Orton in the main event this year and Punk's contract set to expire in July, he was reportedly frustrated over not being able to main event the show.
Punk was rumored to take on Triple H, but with him being absent for over a month, the WWE has pushed a Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H storyline. It remains to be seen what Punk's role will be on April 6 in New Orleans if he returns.
While it's not set in stone, "The Best in the World" may be coming home to Chicago on Monday's episode of RAW.
