NBA legend Isiah Thomas could find a new employer when he visits Detroit at the end of March in time for the 25th anniversary of the franchise' first title squad, and NY Daily News hints it could very well be the Detroit Pistons front-office.

Mitch Lawrence of NY Daily News wrote in his column that Pistons owner Tom Gores has been thinking of shaking up his front office, and that Thomas has emerged as the top candidate to replace Joe Dumars as the president of basketball operations. Thomas and Dumars were backcourt mates during the Pistons' back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990.

Lawrence said that one league source confirmed that "Gores is definitely looking at Isiah to replace Joe."

Dumars has been on the hot seat ever since the Pistons fell from one of the Eastern Conference's most formidable teams in the past decade to a perennial laughingstock. He has also made a lot of dubious moves like drafting Darko Milicic in the 2003 Draft ahead of now superstars Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony. While the team did win the 2004 NBA title, it has now become a mediocre one with four straight lottery seasons. During that span, the Pistons have not won more than 30 games.

Dumars' contract will end this spring.

The track record of Thomas however is not squeaky clean either. He was president of basketball operations of the New York Knicks from 2003 to 2008, considered by many Knicks fans as one of the worst eras in franchise history.
