Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET the No. 8-ranked Kansas Jayhawks (18-5, 9-1 Big 12) will take their show on the road to Manhattan, Kansas, where the Kansas State Wildcats (16-7. 6-4 Big 12), a 12-1 team at home, will try to earn their biggest win of the season. The Jayhawks seem unbeatable on paper, especially with two freshman stars named Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid that could be the top two picks in this year's NBA draft living up to if not exceeding expectations. They do have five losses however, three of which came away from their own building.
In the first matchup between these in-state rivals, Kansas State held their own in a six-point loss. The Wildcats' confidence is likely at a high point after they throttled then No. 15 Texas behind 34 points from freshman guard Marcus Foster.
Kansas State head coach praised Foster highly after the big win, saying, "The thing that I like is he has gotten a little better about being more patient, waiting for good shots, he is our go-to guy. As far as the perimeter, we have got to get him the ball but we need to know that if they are good defensively he has got to give it up."
Still tonight will be difficult for Foster, as he must avoid the pressure of turning the game into a showdown with Wiggins, who enters play leading the Jayhawks in scoring with 16 points while adding six rebound a night.
Despite roster advantages, Kansas coach Bill Self is expecting a very tough game in the "Little Apple."
"I'm sure that they're doing some things a little differently than they did the first game," Self said. "We know it will be a totally different game over there with the energy they get from their fans. It'll be a great test for our young kids to go over there and see how tough we are."
