Tonight at Madison Square Garden at 8:00 p.m. ET Carmelo Anthony will be out to prove that one man can outscore an army when the New York Knicks (19-29) host the Portland Trail Blazers (34-14) in the Big Apple on ESPN. Carmelo is second in the NBA in scoring at 27.3 points per game, and the Knicks will likely need him to exceed that number if they want to topple the Trailblazers, the highest-scoring team in the entire league.

While the stats paint a scary picture, the Blazers haven't been on the mark as of late. They've dropped five of their last eight games, and are sinking just 28.8 percent of their 3-pointers during that span, including a putrid 3-of-13 performance from deep in a loss Monday to the Wizards.

"When you aren't having a great night, defensively, you have to find a way to at least make shots," said point guard Damian Lillard. "When you are making shots, you have to find a way to get it done, defensively."

Defensively the Blazers have been a sieve. The Knicks are maligned for their lackluster performance on defense most nights, but Portland surrenders 103.3 points nightly, 4.3 points more per game than New York.

The Knicks are on a two-game losing streak as well, with one of those defeats coming at the hands of the lowly Milwaukee Bucks. "There are no freebies in the NBA," center Tyson Chandler said. "You can lose on any night to any team if you don't play well."

They need to win those games if they hope to reach the playoffs; currently the Knicks stand two games out of the eighth spot.
