Floyd Mayweather Jr. Next Fight Up To Fans? Marcos Maidana, Amir Khan Options But Most Responders Choose Manny Pacquiao? [VIDEO]

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is remaining coy about who his opponent will be on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, perhaps because the choices are underwhelming. While many fans expected an announcement shortly after Super Bowl Sunday, Mayweather instead offered a choice on his social media accounts.

"I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana," Mayweather posted. Yahoo! Sports cautioned that this could be a misdirection play, citing Floyd's admission prior to facing Robert Guerrero that he'd be taking on Devon Alexander.

This time around though, Marcos Maidana and Amir Khan look like the only two real options. As a matter of fact, Maidana is reportedly tied up with an Adrien Broner rematch, leaving Khan as a major favorite. Still, "Money" implied there was a choice.

Maidana has the hotter name at the moment, having demolished Mayweather's protégé Broner in December. He battered "The Problem," knocked him down twice and gave him a taste of his own showboating medicine by humping his backside late in the fight. His resume is more deserving as well, having reeled off three straight wins over quality opposition.

Despite all that, Maidana fits the mold of most of Floyd's recent conquests. He's a larger, power puncher without very fast hands. Maidana's aggressive style will likely play into Mayweather's hands, and he's unlikely to be able to land cleanly.

Khan, on the other hand, has many convinced his style is the solution to Mayweather's dominance. Khan has never fought above 140 llbs. but believes his natural size will allow for a rapid adjustment. No fight fan or pundit can knock Khan's hand speed, which is elite, and has him boasting of his ability to unseat Floyd from the pound-for-pound perch. He also has a much more vast fan base, including the U.K. and Middle East.

The drawback of Khan is a recent run of inactivity, and a resume that is wanting. He beat Maidana in 2010, but has suffered losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, the latter of which was a vicious knockout.

In his last two wins Khan beat journeyman fighters, the second of which floored him in Round 4.
