LeBron James is still widely recognized as the top player in the NBA, but Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant is making a strong bid. Right now he's on a torrid streak of 11 consecutive games in which he's scored at least 30 points, and even James admits he's unstoppable.
"Individually, he can't be stopped by any 1-on-1 player," James said. "There's nobody that can guard him 1-on-1." Earlier in the month LeBron admitted to being jealous of Durant's shot attempts and the point totals that accompany them.
"I get jealous sometimes when I look over at KD and he's like 16-for-32 (from the field) and then 14-for-34. ... Man," James said. "But there are games where I have it going, and then at the end of the game, I'm like, damn, I shot just 12-for-16? Why don't I get up at least six or seven more? I definitely notice it."
This season LeBron is scoring 26 points a night compared to Durant's career high 31.3. James has a point about eyeballing the "Slim Reaper's" shot attempts; both play very efficient offensive basketball and LeBron's 26 points are coming on nearly 58 percent shooting from the field with 16.4 attempts per night. Durant's 31.3 comes on 51 percent shooting, but he's getting up a hair under 20 shots nightly.
Durant is also playing more minutes than the reigning MVP these days, something LeBron seems to be campaigning to have changed. "I'm not playing as many minutes as I would like but Spo [head coach Erik Spoelstra] is in control of that," LeBron said. "I don't like playing less, I don't feel like I need to play less.
"I can understand we've been playing a lot of basketball so Spo is monitoring that as well. Don't ever put it out there that LeBron wants to play less."
