While the AFC Championship game is pitting two legendary quarterbacks against one another, the NFC's game is jumping off point for two young, mobile passers. This game goes beyond the quarterbacks though; they are the two most well-rounded teams in the conference, and possibly the league.
"I think we're the two teams that everybody was looking at from the beginning," San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick said. "It's going to be a knockdown, drag-out game.
Seattle's "12th Man," their raucous home crowd, could make a big difference in separating these two mirror images. "It's a big deal to play here," All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman said. "We've earned that right to play them at home, to be on our home field in front of our fans."
Niners linebacker Navorro Bowman thinks their familiarity with one another might negate the crowd advantage. "Long story short: They know us, we know them," Bowman said. "We got to go there. We all know the history. But this is the Super Bowl."
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said his team is well-prepared to handle tough settings. "Our team has been in a lot of good primers, been through a lot of situations, been through tough environments, whether it be weather or opposing stadiums."
When San Francisco last played in Seattle they were drubbed 29-3 as Kaepernick dealt with nonstop pressure. "We're a different team than we were the first time we played (the Seahawks) up there," Kaepernick said.
