On December 14th 2013 Marcos "El Chino" Maidana transformed himself from an entertaining slugger to boxing star by battering Adrien Broner, arguably the most polarizing fighter in the sport these days.
In doing so, Maidana entered the running to be Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s next opponent, as Floyd said himself. Still, reports indicate that Amir Khan is more likely to get a chance at "Money" next, due to his wide-ranging fan base and fighting style.
If Maidana is unable to get his shot at Mayweather, is a Broner rematch his best bet going forward?
"The Problem" seems to think so. He recently fired off some tweets giving an unusual amount of respect to "El Chino," but also demanding he step back in the ring. "A y'all bout to see me back in the ring in some weeks..... And I ain't fighting nobody until I fight @ChinoMaidana again ..... I'm a warrior," Broner tweeted.

After the beating he sustained, it is surprising he'd be so quick to demand a runback, and it's unclear whether a rematch is the best bet for either man. Broner looked as if his power has yet to translate to welterweight, and he could be best served reverting to 140 lbs.
Meanwhile, the 147-lb. division is loaded with fighters Maidana can face, including beltholder Shawn Porter, Showtime announcer Paulie Malignaggi, or even up-and-comer Keith "One-Time" Thurman.
Financially though, outside of a date with Mayweather, Broner is probably the top option based off his name recognition, and the fan interest that will accompany his return to the ring.
Broner's "big bro" Mayweather has advised his protégé to pump the brakes a bit. "I don't think he should be focused on chasing the Maidana fight. I think what would be a good move for him is this. May 3, fight on my undercard," Mayweather said.
"You know, fight a solid guy at 140, get back on track and get your career in order. That fight with Maidana should be nothing but a minor setback for a major comeback. But as far as Adrien is concerned, he still has a lot to learn."
