Bucs' Logan Hall Overshadowed by Cousins Franchise-Record 509 Passing Yards in Falcons OT Stunner

The NFL has been filled with record-breaking performances lately including Derrick Henry's 85-yard touchdown. While the Ravens managed to nip the Bills, Logan Hall's effort wasn't enough to carry the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Bucs' defensive end shone, but his team slipped to a 36-30 overtime loss to the Falcons. With his blossoming skills as a pass-rusher, Hall tallied two crucial tackles and two sacks, one of which took quarterback Kirk Cousins down from behind with such ferocity that it reduced the otherwise vertical and speedy quarterback to a rag-doll on the ground.

Even though Hall went out there and had his best game as a pro, it was hardly enough to keep Cousins in Tampa Bay's reach, considering that the Buccaneers could manage nothing but frustration with him on their best game.

Logan Hall's presence on the Buccaneers' defense would not be denied. He did a great job getting to the quarterback, tallying two sacks. His second sack, no less, was beautiful in that he burrowed through the Falcons' offensive line to bring down Kirk Cousins for the third time in two games.

The steady pressure of Hall and the growing contribution of the Buccaneers' defense sketch out growth as a significant part of Tampa Bay, Sports Illustrated writes.

Kirk Cousins Had His Own Career Night

While Hall was outstanding, the real show belonged to Kirk Cousins who delivered a game for the record books. The Falcons quarterback tossed the ball 49 times for 509 yards, outdoing his previous personal best of 460 yards and the Falcons' record for most passing yards in one game. This incredible display served to drive the Falcons beyond the Buccaneers despite the gallant stand by the defense put forward by Tampa Bay's Hall.

Buccaneers Fall Short in Overtime

Fox News reports that the Buccaneers would have won otherwise had they led 30-27 late in the fourth quarter and failed to close out. A dropped pass by Falcons wide receiver Darnell Moody appeared to be going to give Tampa Bay an opportunity to hold onto the lead on third down. But after a woeful offensive drive, Cousins led the Falcons into field-goal range. Younghoe Koo made a 52-yard field goal good for the tie for the game in the last seconds and sent it into extra time.

Falcons Win It In Overtime

Cousins did it again, advancing the Falcons to Tampa Bay's doorstep on an 18-yard pass to Drake London. London was hurt on the play and had to come off the field for Khadarel Hodge. A play later Cousins threw a touchdown pass to Hodge to seal the win for Atlanta in the final thrilling minutes.

Looking Ahead For Tampa Bay

It wasn't pretty, though. The loss sent Tampa Bay's season record down to 2-2 but improved the Falcons' chances in one of the toughest divisions in the National Football Conference - the NFC South. Logan Hall is a bright spot for the Buccaneers' defense despite that loss.

He remains an important cog and influences what can be expected to happen in regards to disrupting opposing offenses as Tampa Bay looks to bounce back.
