All Elite Wrestling's (AEW) Chris Jericho has filed to trademark his catchphrase "Hi guys," but wrestling fans are not so sure about it.
"Hi guys" became a signature saying for Jericho after he introduced his new "Learning Tree" persona to audiences earlier this year. Jericho would say the phrase cheerfully while smiling and waving at the crowds, as reported by Inside the Ropes.
Jericho filed the trademark under entertainment purposes, including wrestling contests, live appearances and online interviews in the description.
Wrestling fans however had mixed feelings about the news. While some were excited about what this means they could see from Jericho, others expressed frustration with Jericho trademarking another phrase.
Others joked about how simple of a phrase it was to trademark. "He originally wanted to trademark "What's up, guys" but then he watched any YouTube video ever," one user tweeted. Another wrote, "Next week...Jerico trademarks 'good morning.'"
Jericho's newest persona began after he defeated HOOK for the title at the FTW Championship at AEW Dynasty. However, he lost the FTW Title back to HOOK after losing at AEW All In in August.
