The Los Angeles Lakers officially selected Bronny James with the 55th overall pick on the second day of the 2024 NBA Draft, held on Thursday, June 27, at ESPN's Seaport District Studios in Manhattan, New York.

The 19-year-old combo guard is the eldest son of Lakers star LeBron James and played one season of college basketball with the USC Trojans.

LeBron and Bronny James are set to make history by becoming the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously.

Bronny is nearly one year removed from suffering a cardiac arrest during a USC team practice back in July 2023, which was caused by a congenital heart defect.

The 6-foot-2 guard underwent heart surgery after the health scare and was medically cleared to be drafted by the NBA's Fitness to Play Panel before the draft combine last month.

Rich Paul's threat to NBA teams regarding Bronny

Before the Lakers selected Bronny, his agent and Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul contacted teams during the draft, urging them not to draft Bronny in the second round and threatening that he would play overseas in Australia's NBL if they did.

LeBron James has repeatedly expressed his desire to play with his son in the NBA, a sentiment he even alluded to in a Beats by Dre commercial.

However, the NBA's all-time leading scorer has recently stepped back from this stance, acknowledging that just because it's his goal doesn't necessarily mean it's his son's.
