Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola provided a definitive answer about a potential return to Barcelona in the future.

The two-time treble-winning coach was asked if the door was closed for a possible return to manage the club where he has spent most of his playing career and the start of his managerial career.

"Yes, door closed," the 53-year-old said with a grin in Spanish during a Legends Trophy press conference on Monday, June 10.

Guardiola entered the club's youth academy at the age of 13 in 1984 and made his senior debut in 1990. During his prime, he was a reliable defensive midfielder, playmaker, and leader, serving as captain from 1997 until his departure in 2001.

He transitioned into coaching by taking over FC Barcelona B in 2007 before stepping up to the main team in 2008, marking the start of his legendary managerial career.

Pep Guardiola's legendary Barcelona tenure

Guardiola managed Barcelona for four seasons from 2008 to 2012, during which they were hailed as one of the greatest teams in the sport's history.

During this period, they won 14 out of 19 possible trophies, including the continental treble in his first season.

The Spanish tactician departed the Catalan club in 2012, citing burnout amid the intensity of managing the success-ridden squad for the past seasons.

He then managed German powerhouse Bayern Munich from 2013 to 2016 before taking up his current job at Premier League club Manchester City in 2016.
