Henry Ruggs III, a former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver, is now working in an unexpected job while serving a prison sentence that cut short his NFL career.

In August 2023, Ruggs was sentenced to three to ten years in a Nevada state prison for a drunk driving crash that led to the tragic death of a woman and her dog in November 2021.

The 25-year-old has now been assigned a job as a "community trusty" at the Nevada Governor's Mansion in Carson City, the official residence of incumbent Governor Joe Lombardo.

According to the Nevada Department of Corrections, community trustys are considered low escape risks with a minimal potential to cause trouble.

Henry Ruggs III's NFL career

Drafted by the Raiders with the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Ruggs was the highest-drafted wide receiver in a class that included standouts like Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tee Higgins.

He showed promise in his rookie year, recording 26 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. However, his second season was cut short after just seven games (24 catches, 469 yards, two touchdowns) due to the abovementioned incident that led to his release from the team.

A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Ruggs played college football at the University of Alabama and was part of the national championship team in 2017.
